You know what? It's becoming increasingly easy to actively dislike bloody SOUTHERNERS!!!!!!!! I was supposed to be flying in with my mate, but he's had to go off to Germany on business so will have to content myself with watching it on the puter.  )-:

You got any involvement with this years Farnborough Jilly? Am prob gonna be down there on biz

I was watching some of the Motor-show part on the live stream this afternoon.   Looking forward to watching some of the runs over the weekend (All from the comfort of a nice sofa in the Eifel).

I have an invite for Farnborough on my desk at work, will let you know if I'm going to be there (I can't remember which date the invite is for Embarrassed )

And pray tell me how you knew it was an Allison V12 and not a Merlin or Griffon? Am intrigued cos not many Allisons in the UK and also impressed that you know the difference. Not that I'm a sad plane spotter you understand.....

Coz i looked up and it was a P51..............i know it a merlin built under licence as for the Griffon, the exhaust note is completly different, more crackly and growly and a mere 10 liters bigger at 37 liters. My late father according to his log book flew both Spits engined variants and in several different marks and supercharger versions but always talked about taking the Tempest to VNE  on air test and i remember him being clearly impressed with it but i have never heard one of those Napier sabre H conf 24'cyl yet.Are there any still airworthy or is that a job for Tony Bianchi/Booker to recreate. ??

Prob not an Allison then, if it was a Mustang, then more likely a Packard V-1650 developed from the Merlin, but I bet you meant to say Packard anyway. As far as I know there are no Tempests flying, although I believe there are a couple being restored. Likewise, it's brother the Typhoon, the only fully restored example is in the RAF museum at Hendon, but again, I believe some are being restored. I think many of the restorations are basically new build with just a  few original parts. The Typhoon/Tempest was of course ultimately developed into the Hawker Fury/Sea Fury but they use the Napier Centaurus not the Sabre. There are only three Sabre's left, two in the UK, and one being restored to running state on Canada, but there are a few more that have been sectioned including one in the Udvar Hazy museum in Washington which I drool over every time I visit! A truly awesome engine:

It's a bit small to read the captions, but here's a cut away of the Sabre

Have you got any pictures of the Arado 234 at teh Udvar Hazy museum, it's the only one in teh world and a fantastic machine, it's  pilot is still alive and has visited his rebuilt machine.
I love Carbon & Titanium & hate ugly bikes, you know, the ones that were built after the 916 types and before the 1098 types! My Jota still goes Rumpety Rump!

Returning the theme to Goodwood .... LOLLOL

Great to see Hodgy back on his (now ex) GSE Ducati. Bike sounded great - it's owned by John Cox, Ducati Restorations - and Hodgy's style as smooth as ever. Malc Wheeler on the TT2; Ago on the 500 MV; John Hackett was supposed to be on a 350 Ducati, but had to run a Yamaha instead; Freddie Sheene on the Icon Sheene; a trio of Laverdas; Aaron Slight on the Honda RC45; Kevin Schwantz on the RGV500; Barrie Baxter on the Desmosedici; plus a stunning selction of many Italian marques and famous riders .....
And the Red Arrows, Black Cats, and the Hunter Air display ...... Big smile
